The possession film Evil Dead Rise dominated the 2024 FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards, notching four wins during the Oct. 13 show on Shudder. The fan-voted awards contest celebrated the best of horror in film, television, and video games released in 2023 and the first half of 2024.
The fifth installment in the Evil Dead franchise, 2023’s Evil Dead Rise won Best Director (Lee Cronin), Best Supporting Performance (Alyssa Sutherland), Best Make-Up FX (Luke Polti), and Best Creature FX (Odd Studio founders Adam Johansen and Damian Martin).
Three other movies won two awards each.
Godzilla Minus One, the 37th film in the venerable creature franchise, received wins for Best Wide Release Movie and Best Score (Naoki Satô).
The 2023 possession movie Late Night with the Devil won Best Lead Performance (David Dastmalchian) and Best Screenplay (Colin and Cameron Cairnes).
The Academy Award-nominated Poor Things picked up wins for Best Costume Design (Holly Waddington) and Best Cinematography (Robbie Ryan).
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre left its mark on the awards. The Legacy of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre won Best Documentary Feature, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre won Best Video Game.
Other highlights included The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, which won Best Non-Fiction Series or Mini-Series for the third time in the last four years.
The yoga kill from the 2024 Canadian slasher In A Violent Nature won Best Kill.
In other movie categories, When Evil Lurks won Best International Movie, I Saw the TV Glow won Best Limited Release Movie, V/H/S/85 won Best Streaming Premiere, Skinamarink won Best First Feature, and Craving won Best Felissa Rose Movie.
The Last of Us won Best Television Series.
Dewayne Perkins and Vision Video’s Dusty Gannon each picked up trophies in the Editorial Eye on the Future category. Perkins co-wrote and starred in the slasher horror comedy The Blackening. Vision Video is a post-punk goth rock band from Athens, Georgia, and Gannon is the lead singer and guitarist.
