The Black Phone and Terrifier 2 led the winners at the Fangoria 2023 Chainsaw Awards aired by Shudder on May 21.
The Black Phone, an adaptation of the 2004 short story by Joe Hill, won Best Wide Release Movie and Best Screenplay by C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson. The film also earned two actor awards. Madeleine McGraw won Best Supporting Performance, and Mason Thames earned one of the three Editor’s Eyeball Awards, which were introduced this year to recognize new talent in the genre.
The clown slasher sequel Terrifier 2 won Best Limited Release Movie and Best Makeup FX by writer/director Damien Leone. The film also won an Editor’s Eyeball Award for Lauren Lavera and earned Best Kill for the killing Allie scene.
Prey, a Native American prequel to Predator, racked up three awards, including Best Streaming Premiere Movie. Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. won Best Creature FX, and Stephanie Porter earned Best Costume Design for the film.

Best Director: Jordan Peele for Nope.
Best Lead Performance: Mia Goth for Pearl.
Best First Feature: Watcher.
Best International Movie: Speak No Evil.
Best Documentary Feature: Pennywise: The Story of It.
Best Series: Stranger Things.
Best Non-Fiction Series or Miniseries: The 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments of All Time.
Best Cinematography: Hoyte Van Hoytema for Nope.
Best Score: John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davis won for Halloween Ends.
Best Amityville: Amityville Christmas Vacation.
Editor’s Eyeball Award: Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks for Alone with You.
Best Short: Close Your Eyes.
