(Editor's note: It took me four days to think of the epically alliterative title for this blog post.) As I delve deeper into the online horror writing community, I’ve clicked across a mishmash of talented authors, interesting news bits, writing updates, and fun lists. So, I thought I'd share some of them in today's post.... Continue Reading →

Shudder exclusive DOWNRANGE is a gritty survival horror film set on a lonely road in the middle of nowhere. The plot is simple. Three men and three women are sharing a ride when the tire on their SUV blows out. Stranded without a reliable cell phone signal, they plan to change the tire and drive to... Continue Reading →
‘Once-ghettoized’ horror genre is mainstream … puh-lease
An article on April 12 by The Associated Press titled “Horror, cheap and in-demand, comes to Hollywood’s rescue” is an example of the utter lack of perspective and depth prevalent in the mainstream media. Obviously, the article is a reactionary piece to the recent success of A QUIET PLACE. Citing last year’s box office hits,... Continue Reading →

My 5 Go-To Sites as a Horror Writer
During my first three months in the blogosphere, I’ve noticed horror writers, readers, and bloggers are a tight-knit community. They love what they do. They have to because they're not writing all those stories and reading all those books for the money. As a horror writer who started his website in January, I had no... Continue Reading →

Using the publisher's theme as a prompt made writing "Demon's Lament" much easier for... Continue Reading →
Interview with Jeff Strand
I cite Jeff Strand’s novel DWELLER as one of the novels that heavily influence me as a writer. In fact, only Robert McCammon’s BOY’S LIFE is more influential on my writing. DWELLER is one of the few novels that I’ve read where I connected with not one but two characters, Toby, and his friend, Owen,... Continue Reading →

My Love of Splatterpunk
In between reading horror and high fantasy novels, I make time to read splatterpunk. Splatterpunk is a cool word for the subgenre of extreme horror, and it’s not for the easily offended or squeamish. For me, they’re some of the most entertaining books I’ve ever read in any genre. Relentless and gut-wrenching, splatterpunk is the... Continue Reading →
Zombie Beavers and Spider Babies
I received a comment from a fellow blogger, Nthato Morakabi, on my post last week about why I write horror. Nthato is a South African writer and a darn talented poet who shares a love for the horror genre like I do. Besides having the coolest name of any blogger I’ve seen, Nthato is one...
